[ view artist's site ]Carol Hayman lives in Austin, Texas where she is a Professor of Anthropology at Austin Community College. Her themes include people and landscapes of many parts of the world. She has traveled many times to Latin America, visiting Peru and Bolivia, and in the Far East, Indonesia. Her photographs become fine art prints by transforming them into etchings using modern polymer plates and a traditional intaglio press, a laborious but satisfying printmaking process. The work is inherently ambiguous with a mysterious quality.
She is an award winning artist whose work has been exhibited in galleries in the United States and expositions in Europe. She has had several exhibitions in Mexico City and Lima, Peru. In Austin, she has exhibited her work in the Gallery Lombardi, the Dougherty Arts Center, the Guadalupe Arts Center, the Texas Fine Arts Association, Tiru Gallery, the Carver Museum, the Austin Visual Arts Association, Women Printmakers of Austin, and the Benson Latin American Library at the UT, among other places. Her work has been featured in the biannual, Foto Septiembre event in Mexico City and Houston, and appeared in numerous publications, including several photographic and printing anthologies.
