Being raised in and around art, Andrea naturally gravitated to and excelled in painting. Soon, it became her life long pursuit. After attending the Kansas City Art Institute and receiving her BFA, she attended the University of Texas at Austin and received her MFA.
Today, she is painting and showing her work while also pursuing a career in graphic design and marketing at a local wood painting panel manufacturer. With daily exposure to new materials, she has become quite versed in the diverse applications of art materials for use in mixed media processes. Andrea finds inspiration in traveling, the outdoors, people, animals, and in all forms of music. Currently, she lives in Austin, Texas.
About the series: Markers of Time: This body of work combines my love for the act of painting while also documenting the process of investigative thought as it relates to art. Ideas are pulled from life, photographs, art history and the natural world and also from my experiences with other people and art. I have learned that sometimes, it is the simplest idea that can produce the most profound statement and I paint with this philosophy in mind. Living and breathing with these paintings everyday, new meaning is brought to the idea of art being a necessary part of life and an integral part of nature.
As the images move to become more abstract, the more the paintings become investigations into the process of painting. Each image is like a page in a lifetime of ideas, each expressing a thought or feeling. Every idea begins, grows, changes and eventually blossoms into a finished image that expresses each stage of the initial idea. The paintings are made quickly and without reserve; color is intuitive. Ultimately, my paintings strive to communicate freedom and individuality while simultaneously speaking about art, painting and their inherent relationship to nature.
