Andrea was born in 1968 at the Baton Rouge General
Hospital and grew up surrounded by art, music and Louisiana culture. She left
Baton Rouge in 1985 to pursue her BFA at the Kansas City Art Institute and
again in 1990 for an MFA from UT Austin. Today, she is pursuing her art career
and is also the Marketing Director at Ampersand Art Supply. Andrea is always
seeking ways to use her work to support her many humanitarian and environmental
causes and is driven by the desire to give new meaning and purpose to what it
means to be an artist today both locally and globally. Currently, she lives in
Austin, Texas. About the series, Markers of Time: This body of work
combines my love for the act of painting while also documenting the process of
investigative thought as it relates to art. Ideas are pulled from life,
photographs, art history and the natural world and also from my experiences
with other people and art. I have learned that sometimes, it is the simplest
idea that can produce the most profound statement and I paint with this
philosophy in mind. Living and breathing with these paintings everyday, new
meaning is brought to the idea of art being a necessary part of life and an
integral part of nature. As the images move to become more abstract, the more the
paintings become investigations into the process of painting. Each image is
like a page in a lifetime of ideas, each expressing a thought or feeling. Every
idea begins, grows, changes and eventually blossoms into a finished image that
expresses each stage of the initial idea. The paintings are made quickly and
without reserve; color is intuitive. Ultimately, my paintings strive to
communicate freedom and individuality while simultaneously speaking about art,
painting and their inherent relationship to nature.
